Brahms in New York

Tom Allen is known to music lovers across the country as the host of CBC's daily afternoon classical show, About Time.  Hear and see him up close in our intimate barn loft space, for this premiere performance of a new chamber musical he has developed, following the nation-wide success of J.S. Bach's Long Walk in the Snow.  Brahms in America is the story of parallel lives. One is of the stoic pianist and composer who became the guardian of musical culture in the 19th-century - Johannes Brahms. The other is the dazzling American soloist that Brahms might very well have become - Johnny Brahma - if he had gone to the United States as a child virtuoso, as his parents had hoped. Who would that dashing showman have become? What would his adventures, his conquests, his failures have amounted to? And if they could have met, what would Johnny Brahma have to say to his grumpy European counterpart? Flash and cash or the burden of greatness... Will the real Johannes Brahms please stand up?
